Damaged Landscapes : Air, Water and Land in Crisis was a 2006 International Federation of Landscape Architects Student Design Competition.

P.O.S.T. (palimpsest of stories told) is an entry that sought to reveal the many landscape layers of an abandoned strip mining site in the southwestern Virginia city of Norton. The site posseses several degrading environmental issues such as acid mine drainage, denudation of vegetation and siltation of nearby biologically diverse waterways. Furthermore, the site is socially outcast due to its appearance, health and history. This project took a close look at not only environmental remediation techniques and technologies, but also proposed ways in which the site could once again become a viable economic and cultural amenity to the City of Norton and the surrounding communities.
