Vineyard Estates is a unique agriculturally-focused development currently under construction in Southern Albemarle County, only a few miles from Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and James Monroe’s Ash Lawn. Closely linked with the Kluge Estate Winery & Vineyard (literally across the road), the aim of the development is to allow homeowners to enjoy a rural estate lifestyle established around vineyards and wine production. Homeowners will be allowed to utilize the winery’s infrastructure to produce their own vintage wines and are encouraged to grow their own grapes on their property.

Initially brought on for a simple landscape and engineering assessment, McKee Carson’s role has expanded over time to become the landscape architects and engineers of record for the entire development. McKee Carson has been instrumental in helping the developer refine the vision for the property and has helped facilitate those changes through the local government and regulatory authorities.

McKee Carson has also been instrumental in initiating a more ecologically sensitive design for the plantings within the development. Utilizing sound ecological principles (especially those of the Virginia Piedmont), we have designed and enhanced all of the existing stream corridors with a rich palette of native plants. These woodland corridors serve a dual purpose as recreational pathways for horses and homeowners while simultaneously allowing for unfettered biological flows and subsequent regeneration of native Piedmont flora and fauna.
