The Ice Park is a one acre urban infill project at the western terminus of the historic pedestrian mall, the heart of downtown Charlottesville. The project posed several design challenges, most significant of which was the presence and remediation of underground storage tanks. Other challenges included the design of utilities under the structure and variations in grade making accommodating handicap access difficult. Since its inception the facility has proven to be an important stimulus for economic development and social vitality for Downtown Charlottesville. Responsibilities included site and urban design and engineering of infrastructure for the entire facility and construction period services.
